Exploring the Gardens in Full Spring Bloom

The Skylands Manor engagement session with Maria and David was the perfect way to celebrate this exciting season of their lives. Nestled within the New Jersey State Botanical Garden, The Skylands Manor comes alive each spring with blooming flowers, flowering trees, and historic architecture, making it one of New Jersey’s most beautiful locations for engagement photos.

As a Hudson Valley wedding photographer, I love traveling throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania to photograph couples in meaningful locations. The Skylands Manor has become one of my favorite places for both engagement sessions and weddings thanks to its historic architecture, beautifully maintained gardens, and breathtaking scenery that changes with every season. It’s a venue that offers endless variety, allowing every couple’s gallery to feel unique while still showcasing the timeless beauty of the estate.

Maria looked stunning in a timeless cream dress that perfectly complemented the soft spring colors, while David’s light-colored suit added an elegant touch to every portrait. With beautiful weather and the gardens in full bloom, every corner of the estate offered another picturesque backdrop.

We began our session at the Historic Greenhouse, one of the property’s most iconic landmarks, before making our way to the charming Carriage House. There, we photographed beneath its beautiful stone archway and along the ivy-covered stone walls, each location adding its own character and timeless feel to their engagement gallery.

From there, we explored the winding paths of the New Jersey State Botanical Garden, stopping beneath the cascading blossoms of the Weeping Cherry Tree and the beautiful Crabapple Allée, where rows of flowering trees created a romantic canopy overhead. We also spent time on the upper terrace overlooking the Italianate Gardens, taking in the sweeping views before finishing our session in front of the grand entrance of The Skylands Manor, where the historic stone façade glowed beautifully in the evening light.
